Case Study - Drylaw
Single Storey Extension with Entire Roof Replacement
Project Background
We were invited by Purcell Miller Tritton to tender for the above extension. The project involved a single storey extension to one side of the property and the design and build of an eco-friendly roof to cover the entire property, giving additional space upstairs comprising three bedrooms and two bathrooms, and downstairs a dining room, new kitchen and sitting room.![]() |

Our Approach
We were able to overcome the challenge of giving the clients the space they required, whilst working to height restrictions, and produced a roof design which was breathable and used the eco-friendly material of pulped newspaper as insulation. We designed and manufactured a staircase, sliding folding doors, sash and case windows, pivoting front door, rooflight and French doors. Further to this we were asked to design and build a bespoke kitchen to our client’s specifications. All this work was manufactured at our workshop.
Testimonial
"We wanted to thank the team at Hutton and Read for the work done to extend our house over the last seven months. As we have said before we have been impressed at the quality of the final product and have had a positive relationship with various members of the team throughout the project who have repeatedly demonstrated their professionalism, positive attitude and friendly demeanour. This has been of benefit when challenging issues ariseand difficult decisions have to be made.We have also been impressed that punch list items identified have been handled quickly, robustly and with the minimum disruptuion possible.
We have recommended Hutton and Read to friends and would be happy to work with Hutton and Read in the future."
